Update Dulu Lain, Sekarang Lain, Kerjasama Proton-Geely Sekarang Sudah Tiada Masalah >> Berita Malay 18

25/05/2017, di dalam blog beliau chedet.cc, baca di sini, Tun Dr Mahathir melahirkan kekecewaannya berkaitan kerjasama Proton dengan Geely.

Tun Dr Mahathir melahirkan rasa duka kerana kereta Nasional negara kononnya telah dijual kepada negara asing, walaupun Proton pada masa tersebut telahpun dimiliki syarikat swasta sepenuhnya iaitu DRB-Hicom. Antara bibit-bibit kekecewaannya boleh dibaca seperti berikut:

1. Proton has been sold. It has been sold to foreigners. 

2. They say Proton is my brainchild. Now the child of my brain has been sold. 

3. Yes. I am sad. I can cry. But the deed is done. Proton can no longer be national. No national car now. We Malaysians are glad to be rid of this pesky car. I am sure Proton will do well. It will be a commercial success. It will be sold all over the world. The Proton name will be everywhere.

18/08/2018, dalam lawatan Tun Dr Mahathir ke China, lain pula nadanya. Beliau telah melahirkan rasa gembira kerana kerjasama Proton-Geely banyak memberi manafaat. Memetik laporan The New Straits Times, baca di sini,

He noted that the Zhejiang Geely Holding Group had made tremendous progress in terms of producing quality cars despite entering the business of vehicle production much later than Proton. 

“When Proton was first produced, Geely was nowhere around. We sent six Proton cars here (to China), and we were very proud of our achievement. 

“But as you know, Geely has outstripped us in terms of quality and productivity of your industry. And I think Proton can benefit from working together with Geely,” he said.

Betullah kata Tun Dr Mahathir, Melayu mudah lupa.
